Elizabeth St Espresso

This is a nook of coffee that is clearly loved and respected by the clientele. They serve illy with real passion in the midst of what has to be the rougher part of Melb. I liked the coffee, and the genuinely pleasant interaction with the barista.
I’ll be back. Possible 2 beaner here. Thanks Jacqui for the tip.

  1. I just love these little finds in out of the way areas.

There were a couple of great little cafes around Glebe (a lot of housing commission and uni students) in Sydney where I used to live, and all were as different from each other as chalk and cheese.

  2. semaphore junction

hmmm I’ve been past that particular cafe quite a few times, but it never occured to me to actually stop and sample the coffee. Might have to do that next time.

  3. Elizabeth Street expresso is by far one of the better places for coffee in Melbourne. The only down for this cafe are the masses of students smoking out the front during a break from classes at the hospitality school adjoining the cafe.

  4. what is it with the illy places in melbourne they all have to get zero for ambience and 10 for the coffee, this place does have some charm but its for pit stops only really.

  5. I love this place! I can also get a toasted vegemite and cheese panini!

  6. It’s often the little, tucked away cafes in melbourne that are the best! You can’t go wrong with Illy coffee, especially when it’s made by people with passion. This little place is a winner.
Check out the top level at Australia on Collins in Collins Street too, that cafe also makes great Illy coffees.
