The Melbourne Coffee Review

Melbourne has some of the grooviest places to have a coffee. But where is the best coffee? I've had coffee's across the globe, but to be sure, here in the CBD of Melbourne (Australia) we are a bunch of coffee snobs (especially in Collins Street), and do not suffer bad coffee well. 1 bean = bloody worth looking up, 2 beans = something extra ordinary here. 3 Beans = close to sex. These are my reviews for them that give a bean!! Peter Christo [Enquiries +61(0)412133363]

Garden Plaza Cafe - 120 Collins St. Melb VIC Australia

Garden plaza café, at 120 Collins Street. They are obviously a cherished part of the govt and ivory tower set. I have to say the coffee was good, hot, deep in texture and creamy. The barista knew his stuff!! I’ll be back..

MCR and Auckland Coffee

I spent about 6 days wandering Auckland’s various coffee establishments between my conference sessions. I was intending to review a few but as I have said before it counts for little unless you review at least twice. I checked out a few including the McDonald Brothers, and Columbrand, a place around the corner from the New President Hotel, which was not the best coffee in the world (Hotel coffee..yuck).

I guess the best thing to comment generally, and seek your input. Overall I found the Auckland effort ok, but not mind blowing in terms of quality coffee, and service.. There were some fine coffee establishments that took their coffee seriously, and some not so. I also hit Devonport, which was similar.

I would rate it like a Brisbane rather than a Melbourne or Sydney. Mind you… what is the coffee in Brisy like? Maybe that’s the next adventure for MCR.

Devonport's Zigana.
