Balaclava as a new Dad.
Its been a wild couple of weeks with the arrival of our new baby boy. The hospital we used is Masada, and so I took a few opportunities to check out the coffee scene down Balaclava Rd/Carlile St.
I have to say it was a mixed result. I first checked out “The Wall” Carlile St, Balaclava. I’d been there a couple of times years ago (pre MCR) and remember it to be ok, but this time I have to say I was less than impressed with the coffee. Groovy scene wise it rates highly, but the attitude at the window was CBF, here’s your luke warm coffee, and while Genovese cuts the mustard for me generally, it failed to make the grade.
I am really actually appalled,…

I also checked out Café Qua, further up the road at 289. Excellent service, Friendly and a descent brew. Wasn’t really an opportunity for a full review, but they warranted a mention.

Finally, I enjoyed La Café on Nelson, 28 Nelson St. They use Atomic, and did an ok coffee, but again nothing to rave about. Slightly over heated, but seemed to care about what they were doing. I’m thinking I’ll visit again, and see how they go for real. No beans for anyone this round, but I’ll be back….
BTW, Interesting tidbit... my son was norn 14th June 2006..... the first ever post on MCR back in 2004 was done on the 14th June.... freaky? Me thinks yes!!!
