During a recent visit to the motherland I stumbled across the most ingenious combination to treat the senses – a mobile coffee shop at the beach. What could be better?

I’d just been for a swim at a surf beach at Yallingup, Western Australia, with some friends after a wedding the night before. After stumbling back to the carpark with sea hair we came across this man-with-a-van scenario with a fully loaded espresso machine and refrigerator to satisfy any swimmer, surfer or sunbather in the locality.

So it was a bit pricey at $4.50 a cup (particularly given the low rent I presume this astute businessman would pay), but who wouldn’t be willing to pay it when you can smell the sea and hear the waves crash from the counter? The coffee was pretty good and they even had soy milk!

We all know what a decent latte looks like so I’ve provided a photo of the cafe surrounds instead. Gosh, I love Australia’s ability to combine all of my favourite things. I wish this could be on my street corner in London!

I so agree with this whole concept! There is now one of these mobile units at Hampton beach (bottom of South road) Bayside Melbourne…….what better way to walk the dog than with a coffee in hand? I’d give it a bean in rating…..but if he stays with us for winter, I’ll up that to 2, in pure gratitude!!!
