ST KILDA VIC 3182
Well….this one was a recommendation from J/B, and thank you!
And I do mean THANK YOU! A really big one.
Yes I popped out there, but I actually ordered an espresso first, God I hate the term ‘short-black’, instead of the recommended flat white.
Admittedly, it is hard to find fault with a shot of espresso. If it is precisely extracted, it is pure bliss. This one did not disappoint, it arrived with a glossy crema, notes of butter and caramel, and an elegant balance of acidity and sweetness.
Complex, sublime, pure sensory bliss.
I thought I’d try the recommended flat white as a chaser, and was quite glad I did, when I was presented with a well textured, creamy and artfully etched beverage, which interacted brilliantly with the espresso’s crema to create a fusion of umber tones and the pure white, velvety smooth and glossy milk.
The caffeine hit was smooth, clean and bright, the mouthfeel delicate and silky, the overall experience incredible, totally satisfying and well rounded.
A solid one bean and a great place to meet inside or in their courtyard for a business meeting or a quick bite with the family.
P.S. Make sure you try the fresh muffins, they ROCK!

Never heard of espresso Syndicate b4, any idea if its available anywhere else????
Awesome! glad you likey. I bought the coffee in ground form but nothing compares to having it in there. Syndicate is the organic free-range and -ahem- slightly upper crust version of Gravity espresso.
I’m on it
I’ll let you know about
Espresso Syndicate ASAP

im quite dissapointed, it used to be good, muffins were still hot fresh from the oven when first opened, now the coffee and average and the muffins need to be reheated because they are old left overs from previous days, the muffin i had today was choc chip (even though i asked for blueberry) and stale on the outside and freezing cold on the inside, its just turning in to every other cafe.
Espresso syndicate is also offered at Mamma’s Boy, in 13 Little Collins St in the city (:
the coffee maybe good, i couldn’t say. however i can say that, the service was appaling! not only did they mess up our order what they gave us instead of our order was awful. their speciality, a ‘ham and cheese yorkshire toasty.’ almost no ham, cheese wasnt even a little bit melty and the bread was stodgy. when i asked the waiter for a little more ham he said he would bring it to me and scurried on his way. 15 minutes later the ham had still not come. i went to the counter to ask for the ham again and the waiter abruptly and very rudely said to me to ask some one else and stormed off in a huff. mind you i had been nothing but polite and had made no puss at any time during the interactions!
TERRIBLE!! I will never ever go back and encourage you not to bother with their huffy and awful service!
interesting feedback from others … i live in the neighbourhood & have been going regularly since they opened. i am a huge fan of their coffee & muffin $5 special and enjoy the different offerings from the oven!
i have seen a few different faces over the time but think they have weeded out the rude ones!
there is much to be said for consistency especially on the coffee front, for me these guys deliver every time.
i’d encourage anyone to give it a go … nice during the week to read a book or go through paperwork, or with friends on the weekend.
also, the witty little sayings on the chalkboard give you food for thought.
i for one will be back tomorrow and am talking a girlfriend from out of town on sunday.
I love this cafe, not only are the coffees great but the staff are so friendly.
I personally am a huge fan of their chai latte’s and have never had one that tasted better anywhere in melbourne. I can’t think of a better place to sit and read the paper on a sunday in the sun…perfect.
