No sooner had we crowned “Caffe” a prince of DC coffee, did PeregrineEspresso step up and ask us;”Who’s the King?” Recently opened, and just spitting distance from the iconic Capitol, it is clear that at least a small portion of some significant world decisions will one-daybe recognized to have been fuelled by caffeine hits from this coffee-geek joint. A congressman’s nostrils will flare, eyes roll back a tad and feel that warm little spot in their tummy before getting down to helping govern the most powerful nation on earth. Iordered an espresso – which comes standard as a double at Peregrine -and a cafe latte. However one quick word of warning – don’t try asking for a ristretto in Washington DC as it’s bound to draw a blank,if not profoundly confused stare. The espresso was thick and dark, almost viscous with a rich texture and one hell of a kick at the end. Folks made of less stern stuff would shy away from such serious power, however I bravely turned to the rich and perfectly creamy looking latte. I can only describe what passed these lips as blissful. Silky, smooth and texturally one of the most satisfying coffees I have had the pleasure of imbibing, with the only hint of traditional Americana being the over-sized ceramic cup. It’s clear this challenger has thrown off the gloves and demands a serious shot at the title.
A two bean slammer this time round for Peregrine Espresso from our travelling highly-caffeinated pilgrim, Eric, out doing the rounds once again in Washington DC for the roving Melbourne Coffee Review..…
Hope you all enjoy, till next time Keep on Caffeining on…..
