Melbourne Coffee Review Hotshots - Find your Local Beaner Cafe

October 5, 2008

404 Royal Parade
Parkville VIC 3052

As I entered this newly opened and well fitted out café, the expectation was high, given the heavy reputation that this place had amongst coffee geeks, like me.
The décor was modern and ambient, the atmosphere, warm and friendly, the staff happy and obliging.
A delicious menu, reasonably priced and variant enough to satisfy the most demanding appetite.
But hey, I was here for the coffee….as I had heard sooooo much about this place.
I ordered a ristretto and was presented with 15mls of pure bliss….long on the palate, fruity and complex such an intense experience with a BIG finish, INCREDIBLE.
I followed it up with a double shot café latte, which was presented with a double Rosetta to not only enhance the overall effect and complement the sensory experience, but to also showcase the skill and expertise of Erin, the barista/owner of this amazing café.
Incredibly after at least a dozen coffees this day, this one still managed to impress and satiate my intense yearning for caffeine nirvana.
THANK YOU!

Truly a 3 beaner, once again, you turned the day around after so much mediocrity and blandness it is always exciting to sample the Devil’s Cup as it should be prepared, a true maestro…..
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED team caffeine, go down and say G’day, they will blow your mind!!!
A 3 bean MCR ‘HOTSHOT’ café!! Welcome to the team …..
Till next time, keep on caffeining on…….

hey, is this listed address correct cause I spent 20 mins looking for the place at 404 Royal Pde today before just heading to something else nearby?

I just checked another website and it has Primary at 309 Royal Pde instead which makes more sense that its on the odd numbered side of the street?

All the other tips from this site have been great so Im keen to check out this 3 beaner ;)

Apparnatly its in a building next to Monash Parkville campus?
My girlfriend went there and ordered a mocha, which didn’t receive any latte art.

I’m yet to try it myself.

This place must have let itself down. Ordered a strong latte today and got a weak insipid drink resembling dirty milk. Didn’t see Erin anywhere in sight

    399 Royal Parade

(404 is an internal number reference)

terrible coffee…! I don’t care about latte art when the extraction and milk are imperfect!

gimme a perfect extraction and silky smooth milk…! – i couldn’t care less about 5 rosettas in a cup when the extraction and milk are horrid. YUK!!!

a top notch barista when being under extreme pressure will concentrate on being consistent as well as efficient. if he/she start making 1 coffee at a time purely focusing on latte art, it’ll take forever.

it wasn’t even busy and they still couldn’t manage…!

I go to Primary often for breakfast (which is reasonably priced for budget conscious students) and the quality is excellent. A few barristers have been around recently that are new and so I have had one or two bad cups that have been less than delicious. Sadly but gladly they have not been there to ply their trade for too long. Most of the time Ben and Erin are on board. They are excellent people, as are their brews.

But there is no wi-fi for public access – though it would be a great addition :)
