Lucky for the great directions to this one, team caffeine, as I’d still be wandering about aimlessly looking for it, but for those who have found it, EUREKA!
They have struck Caffeine GOLD!
Tucked away next to the physics building I felt totally out of place wandering about Melbourne University, this was no place for someone so uneducated, such a lost soul, I was expecting to get stopped by security as I wandered about, but it was all cool…
This place looked great really appealing, nice vibe…
Great menu, reasonable prices, amazing coffee focus.
I asked for an espresso which I read was made using their own blend called ‘Red Ecolsierra’ roasted down @ St Ali’s in South Melbourne.
Wham Bam, thank You Mam!! This espresso was OLD SKOOL, a knockout!
God, the inflection, the aroma, the mouthfeel, the flavours, SKOOL’s Out for COFFEE!!!!
Hastily, I ordered a café latte as I wanted more of the good-stuff, I was keen to partake in the Devil’s Cup once more, and I was not disappointed at all, well only a little, merely by the fact this place was sooooo busy that the barista was having a hard time keeping up, but they all did an excellent job, quality was not compromised, the offering was superb, sublime!
Thank you to the team at Castro’s Kiosk, a real winner and a HOTSHOT if I ever saw one, check out all of Melbourne’s best @:

For some strange reason I felt like a cigar to compliment he afterglow of such an experience: 3 BIG BIG BEANS here…
Till next time, keep on caffeining on…….The CaFFiend!!!

Coffee: Castro’s own AMAZING blend

Big Up Guys! Thanks for the review! We’re very passionate about our coffee, and as you know product changes from day to day, depending upon a whole variety of conditions, and we’re constantly refining our product. All feedback in relation to same is welcome. Cheers, Pat (aka askthecoffeeguy)
tsk, I’ve been telling everyone I know about Castro’s for a year now. They brush off my wisdom, but I clearly know best
As a librarian at Melbourne Uni Castro is my regular coffee place. Not only the coffee is great, but the staff is very friendly, and I would also say that all of them are very attractive, but as I am old enough for them to be my daughters I won’t say that.
Man, this place is amazing. It is like…. Mecca, for priests of the bean. Thanks for five years of good, solid caffination! Highly recommended for coffee lovers, even if they don’t go to Melbourne University – it will be definitely worth your while to drop in!
Castros Kiosk… is hands down the best coffee at UniMelb. I worked in a coffee shop for 5 years, it is easily among the highest quality coffees you can find in Melbourne. The staff is great and the atmosphere is amazing. If you haven’t found it yet… you are missing out =)
Castro’s has the World’s Best vanilla chai latte!!!! It keeps me alive at Uni! And amazing staff!! Doing great things reviewing this gem!
More than just fabulous coffee- it is a little slice of paradise between lectures! The staff and friendly and fast, no matter how busy they get. I’d recommend their hot chocolates too- sinful but delicious!

You should be able to find them on facebook by searching for “castro’s kiosk, my oasis”
yep they have the most delicious hot chocolates and chai lattes!!
Sadly the owners have changed recently and the focus on coffee seems to have slipped considerably – be sure to ask for Allie or Donna by name to make your coffee or else you may be dissapointed!
Cheers, ACg
