100 Coffee's

You know a place has good gelati when it’s a Sunday morning, freezing
cold outside, blowing a gale and still there are people packing the
place out. Dolcezza are another of the many DC cafe’s that use
Counter Culture’s beans however this place is a little different -
Dolcezza are gelati specialists in Washington DC (think Gelobar in
Lygon st – that good). With such a strong philosophy towards
excellence in ice cream, it seems logically fitting that they also
toot their own horn for serving excellent-espresso coffee

The first thing to know: soy lovers beware, there is only cow’s milk
here (which makes sense when you think about it, no true ice-cream
connoisseur could honestly say that a soy based ice-cream was anywhere
near comparable to the real stuff, but I digress……)

Back to the topic – I’m noticing a trend over here that is a little
different than I’m used to – the espressos come out dark, and I mean
really dark, which often as a sign of water temperature being too hot
or simply as a result of the blend – I can’t put my finger on it -
what I do know is that each time the very dark crema tends to
correlate with an unpleasant taste. You can see what I mean by “dark”
in the picture. The resultant bitterness made me make that noise like
I’d just had some really tart flavoured medicine – it was too
overpowering on the front of the palate.

Surprisingly the latte had none of the nasty expressions of the shot
and was balanced much better. The only criticism of this was a
slightly overly milky vibe, while the texture lacked some thickness
associated with a truly splendid cup – but all in all pretty close to
spot on. Unfortunately they lose points in the care department as my
coffee was served spilled over the side of the cup into the saucer,
which made it a little messy, but a minor criticism for what amounts
to a one bean cup.

CAFFIEND, I’m having a hard time over here, mate….really in need of
some salvation.
DUDE!! There is no salvation for you, you have drunk from the Devil’s Cup, right here in Melbourne, how do you expect anything else in the world to compare, to even come close??

The only solution is to come back and check out all of our HOTSHOT cafes:
