Piccolo conjures to me images of small and cute, so as I walked into this trendy café just off Chapel St, I already had preconceptions, they were quickly dispelled.
This one was a recommendation from one of our FANS on FACEBOOK, so I was quick to head out, as I got a stack of emails following up the initial post telling me to go down and give it a go…so here I was.
The place was quite small and cozy, the furniture tatty and rustic, the DJ station spinning the vinyl, WHAT THE?!?! I looked again and right next to the coffee machine was the source of the cool music coming out of the place; vynil records, BRILLIANT!
I thought I’d be clever and order a piccolo espresso, the barista nodded comfortably, I felt reassured.
I took a seat and out came my ristretto, the play of colors and inflection of the crema was mesmerizing, I was in a trance….
Supreme is always top notch and this place did not let me down, the subtle nuances of flavours and the complex mouthfeel were idyllic, pure bliss, and what a finish, a complete journey!
I was quick to follow it up with a piccolo latte as that seemed to be the theme of the day and boy did this guy know how to pull a shot, as I watched him extract another 30ml nectar of the Gods, which he skillfully combined with perfectly heated and textured milk.
In one word: EXQUISITE!!!
