(on the corner of Ormond and Glenhuntly Rds)Elwood VIC 3184

The search goes on….on and on….and let’s hope that the old adage holds true especially in this case, that slow and steady wins the race.
We all know the fable of the hare and the turtle and so it was with trepidation and hope that I entered this iconic café, a landmark of sorts in sunny Elwood.
Idyllic scenery, excellent locale, delicious menu, and hopefully a Devil’s Cup fit for the Gods!
A friendly and homely café which seemed really popular and busy in amongst so much competition, gee I though they must be doing something right, I hope it’s the coffee!!!!
I ordered an espresso asking for it to be extracted really short..The waitress brings it over to my table with a glass of water, which I reckon is a must at all good cafes these days, and I am instantly transfixed by the dense and thick golden crema as well as the wafting aromas that ready the palate for what is to come.
A complex yet subtle interplay of flavours with a clean finish, plenty of middle and an intense start, quite an amazing feeling, almost memorable…
I sit, read, enjoy; happy to be alive and then try again, a café latte this time, and even though it is mid afternoon it is still acceptable here in Melbourne to order this beverage, were we in Milan or Rome it would be utter blasphemy!
Nevertheless it is a tad too hot, a tad to fluffy a tad taddish, whatever that means!
The milk certainly overpowered the coffee and left me craving another espresso, which promptly arrived to compensate for the lackluster performance of the café latte, which even though was not to my liking was still alot better than most places around town.
ONE Strong bean here and truly slow and steady had won the race, the Turtle was both consistent as well as meticulous in their homage to the Devil’s Cup, well done; you now qualify as one of Melbourne’s elite, a true HOTSHOT café.

For all the best that THE CAFFIEND has found in his journeys, check it out @:

Till next time, keep on caffeining on…….
