International Coffee Expo

December 15, 2008

I have been in Sydney since Wednesday running a workshop for a client. I have to admit that until now I have had, what can only be be described as a ‘distant’ relationship with Ms Sydney. I think however that on this trip I may have fallen in smit (or perhaps a crush) with her. Since Agi joined MCR I have been a little more selective with my reviews. He asks me to do five while I am here, however I will give you just one. A good one.

The news is that Sydney now has a coffee culture to rival Melbourne now. I don’t know how wide spread it is, but you can certainly get a decent brew in the city. I personally am not fussed where I get a great coffee. My alliance is to the quality brew not to Melbourne per se. Sorry, its true.

With that let me introduce you to Jet Cafe at the Queen Vic Building. This place is smack bang in the middle of town on the corner of York and Druitt Sts. The pointy end of the QVB. This is my second visit (as per the old days when I use to insist on multi visits to review). On both visits I was greeted with a friendly and professional cafe service, and a long macchiatto that was borderline sex.

Yes my friends, this place rocked my rather clear pallet which had not seen caffeine since Friday last week, due to a self imposed cleanse. The presentation was traditional glass and saucer with the trusty but unnecessary satchel of sugar on the side. The first sip greeted my lips with a perfectly drawn and hot creamy nectar that had just the hint of bitterness. The crema was long and lasting and the vibran ambiance allowed me to enjoy the coffee with privacy and anonymity.
Welcome to the three bean club lads!

Hi Chum, If you’re at JET again soon, say hello to ‘Bart’ for me won’t you!! Hes the lean tall waiter who looks a bit like Jesus (but don’t tell him that!).

I’ve spent many a happy vacation in Sydney, and have got to know Jet very well, and have made a terrific friend with Bart especially, -he’s a really likable mate whoose personallity lifts the mood of the whole of JET -staff and customers alike! (wish him a Happy Christmas if it’s near the time!!).

    Cheers, and take care dude!!

I agree & I also think that Chris the Barista needs a special mention. A venue that size & over 5 kilos every evening, that boy is clean, consistent & definitely worthy of a 3 bean award (with just enough attitude too)…

ANd let me add that Antoinette is the hostess with the mostess and will make you feel extremely welcome & special. Everything about Jet humms along and ticks all the boxes for the great cafe culture of Sydney
