The final installment of the CaFFiend’s journey through the Dandenong mountains took me to a quaint little shack straight out of an Agatha Christie movie, in search of Espresso satisfaction.
Since I went to the House of coffee earlier and the coffee wasn’t great, I thought I’d hit the Tea room, maybe they would do justice to the humble coffee bean.
It was so nice and cozy inside, packed to the rafters!!!
Devonshire Tea was the order of the day, so we ordered a serve, Scones!!! YUMMY!!!!
But Tea, NO WAY!!! “I’ll have an espresso please.”
I should have taken the hint when they didn’t know what that was, which was clear by the puzzled look on their faces, proceeding to bring me a café latte.
Too much confusion!!!!!!!!!
Honestly team caffeine, I couldn’t even bring myself to try it, the meringue ontop, really put me off and the fact that I needed asbestos gloves to touch the glass was a sign that it would not be the best beverage I’d ever had…I opted for a cup of tea and thoroughly enjoyed it with my scones, but Goddammit!! I needed a coffee and I needed it fast….which way to the nearest HOTSHOT café?!?!?!?

No beans here and a speedy descent from Mt Dandenong for the CaFFiend!!!
Till next time, keep on caffeining on…….

So close! Now just go a little to the right, past the tea shop and into Ripe… Marples is over-rated (although their Asparagus and Chicken fingers are nice)
i was wondering if anybody had the recipe for the famous miss marples scones.
i find it amazing how big they are but love them all the same.

Hi,
I visited Miss Marples yesterday, 1 August 2009. It was crowded. I’d describe it generally under the heading of The Psychology of Extraction. Everything was about appearances, but no real value – even though that was what it is pushing (and people seemed to think they were getting.) Here are a few observations:
1. The scones are not real, individually cooked scones at all, but cut from a layered cake out in the kitchen. Not on.
2. The sweets are all cheap filling. They look a bit stunning, but the reality is it’s all made up of cheap cream and other fillers. People need to be much more discerning. Look at the reality, not just the ‘cover’ of the book, so to speak.
3. The menu offers you the Devonshire Tea price but does not include the tea – which is the real killer price-wise.
4. Again, the scones and cream on the Devonshire were plentiful, but not the jam. The jam was dished out like priceless gold and in measured containers – done to a price.
Don’t be fooled. It’s all done to a price and not what it appears to be at first blush. A complete con job, no doubt about it.

I visit Miss Marples regularly and it is one of my favourite places. No, the scones are not individually baked. If that matters to you then take note, but it doesn’t matter to me and the servings are bigger than any I’ve had anywhere else. You can also ask for more jam or cream.. at least I could when I asked nicely..
My favourite dessert is the chocolate and pecan fudge cake, the likes of which I’ve never had anywhere else. If it’s cheap filling, then it’s the tastiest cheap filling I’ve ever had.
And sorry to the original author, you don’t go to tea room serving devonshire tea and ask for coffee! That’s like asking for an aussie meat pie at a chinese restaurant – if it even happens, it won’t be pretty..
Great place to go for tea and scones or even lunch. Quaint teapots scattered around and a great atmosphere, staff very good and friendly. I looove this place and wish we had one in Adelaide.
