This is the second time I’ve heard about this place just tonight and I live halfway across the world. It sounds like a really interesting place.

to be honest, i was a little disappointed. the concept is great, the delivery not so. maybe i just had a bad day.

S1 is my favourite. Less fancy than the others, it delivers what a coffee should deliver. Good body, complexity. I particular the fruity overtones. I’ve never imagined coffee having that but it makes sense when you think about it. Coffee beans are actually a type of cherry.
S3 is the moscato of the wine world. Sweet and pleasing but not serious enough.
S2 is interesting. It’s very complex but is sweeter.

Ive been here several times. I thought it was average on my first visit when it was near opening. It has now been open for a while and they have since seemed to improve both in service and product quality. Its really worth going there to try there specialty coffees the syphon and cold drip.

Also both occasions with different baristas there they have been able to execute a fantastic espresso from the Slayer machine.

There staff are friendly and passionate about coffee and really care about delivering high product quality.

I wish them all the success in the future.

I recently visited the coffee lab and was disappointed that the staff could not really be bothered with me. I was extremely interested in learning how the syphon method worked and would have loved to taste some of the blends. The staff seemed more interested in themselves than in me. Not a great experience.

Tracey, I’m sorry that they weren’t helpful enough.

While I was there, I was quite interested in the different methods of coffee extraction as well. Contrary to your experience, this nice asian lady (can’t remember her name) was very helpful and went through all the methods and differences between them with me, and that was during a very busy day.

Let’s hope your experience there will be better next time.

I had same experience with Tracey, and I also got disappointed with “THE SYPHON COFFEE”.
Well, taste is not “CLEAN” as i used to have syphon coffee in JAPAN.

I guess the Barista is too busy to looking around people walking through David Johnes.

Making coffee is like ZEN. Concentrating is very important, and that shows the clean coffee I think.

i have been there with friends a few times over the past month. first time was pretty good and they showed us the menus and explained things. a few people around us were not happy though as their coffees didn’t come out. i should have taken this as a warning sign…

second time they took ages serving us but the coffee was good and we assumed it was a bad day for them so we were happy to come back.

today was the third and LAST time we went there. the service was shocking, it took us 15 minutes to be served our coffee after we placed our order and that is only because i reminded them. when we got the coffees they were watery and bitter. terrible stuff.

i am sick of people kissing the arse of these over-hyped coffee places which all seem to be owned by the same group of people. this place in particular is a let down. won’t be returning.
