Well, well, well, as the old saying goes, better late than never and in this case truer words were never spoken!

It took the CaFFiend a while but I was finally able to make my way down the ‘golden mile’ of cafes and personally thank the creator of my famous Devils Cup latte art image, see left.

David created this a year ago personally for me and although he is reputed to serve one of the best coffees anywhere in Melbourne, lazy me took so long to get down there and see for myself, but let me tell you he is serving something very special, a custom blend out of Adelaide, care of RIO Coffee which will blow your mind.

It is truly everything it is reputed to be and then some, a passionate team, totally focused and caffeine fuelled, really and honestly possibly the best coffee on Carlisle St and that’s saying something with names like Gattica, Lad Chicas, Batch and Wall 280 all within walking distance.

Three BIG BEANS for the Midali team, and a BIG recommendation to one and all to give them a go, you truly haven’t lived till you’ve had some Midali Caffeination, but a question to ponder………What does Midali mean?

Till next time, keep on caffeining on……………………….The CaFFiend!!!!

3 beans? They’re only 1.5 in the book/iphone app… my vote would be about 2. Pretty good, but not consistently level with Batch which I’d give a 3…

Absolutely hands down the best coffee on Carlisle Street! The coffee is consistently great and the staff are efficient and friendly.

  3. Marco says:

excellent coffee making technique but very bland blend of bean, on all 3 visits!
Is it just me or does Steve give high rankings to all the coffee places where he is on a first name basis with the owner?…….

mmm… I think there will always be the ‘human factor’ regardless of who does the review… BUT, soon… we’ll be rolling out a new feature on both the web and iPhone that will mean users can vote for the cafes themselves, so it will more of a peoples choice!

Thanks Marco, Pete is on the money here….look out for the way of the future: Peoples Choice!!
FYI Funnily enough I’m on a first name basis with most if not all cafe owners around town, its nice to be important but important to be nice! ;) Keep on Caffeining on!!

I’m a Wall espresso drinker when i’m around Carlisle St, and I’d been to Midali a number of months ago and was pretty unimpressed – I don’t remember the details but I think it tasted burnt.

So I decided to give it another try – went out of my way to have a strong flat white yesterday and it was excellent.

Bank again today for the big test: what will their espresso be like? Let’s ignore the overheated cup that burnt my lip … the coffee wa good, and having had a nice chat about bikes with Michael yesterday (stopped in on my way home from riding), I’m prepared to forgive them the overheated cup (did I mention that already?).

3 beans? Maybe. Probably more a solid 2.5, but I’ll be heading back for more.

Had Latte, Was Good, balanced, well extracted and flavoursome!

However, I agree with Nick, Its Not a 3 beaner, 2-2.5 would be more appropriate. I mean, you put Degraves Espresso in 3 bean category.

Moreover, At $4 for (not so) large latte, it is on the dearer side of a competitive cafe strip and risks losing the price sensitive customers (like me). Loco Cafe (a real 3 beaner) has a regular latte for $3 and its pretty much the same quantity as Midali’s large latte and more awesome. It all adds up for me. Couple of dollars everytime (for 2 people) and every fourth coffee is free at Loco when compared to Midali.
