Where? 126 Union St Brunswick Vic
Miss Marmalade opened in mid January in a cozy Victorian terrace in Union street Brunswick. Chef owner Tony Enlund and his team combine their passion for coffee with a passion for food. Regulars enjoy a constantly evolving menu with dishes like ricotta hotcakes with spiced apples, hazelnuts and honey labne, smoked salmon with a spring onion hash cake, or corn fritters with Woodside goats cheese, portabello mushrooms, topped with a deep fried egg.
Coffee is supplied by local roaster Five Senses with a blend of PNG Elimbari, Brazilian Delarisse and Indian Tiger Mountain ‘A’. Barista James Martin pulls his shots from a 3 group Synesso Sabre imported from Seattle. For tea lovers, there is a selection of Chamelia organic and single origin teas.
The dining room is full of character and charm, with industrial whisks hanging light fittings, counters made from recycled timber and antique silver sugar bowls. During the week, mothers and babies gather in the second dining room, which has been fitted out especially for them with a rug and floor cushions, toys and games and the rest rooms come complete with a baby change table, emergency supplies and Aesop toiletries for the mums.

Easy 2 beaner, piccolo with pimped out eggs in a laid back setting far from the hustle bustle of Sydney rd was exactly what the doctor ordered and it’s exactly what was served up. Double ristretto was on point too, the way it rolled out of the cup so lazily and coated the tongue with a deep body of bold flavours before slinking away and leaving a smooth aftertaste of medium bitterness left me with the predicament of recommending little Miss to all who’ll listen or keep it to myself for just a little longer…
Agreed – maybe even three beans if they can keep it up. The coffee here was out of this world, which is saying something in Brunswick. Food was great too – we had breakfast. They manage to use old favourite ingredients while keeping the menu innovative – and serving sizes not ridiculously large.
But the highlight was the coffee.
