Vote for this cafe
South Terrace in South Fremantle is rapidly developing a reputation as a new “cafe strip” in Fremantle, and Aubergine has a big part to play in that. Owned by Dave Cooney, an expat from sunny Wheelers Hill in Melbourne, Aubergine has set the standard for coffee and breakfast south of Fremantle’s cappuccino strip. The decor is pretty basic, but Aubergine has a nice feel, the Polaroids of local dogs adding to the community spirit. Although it’s packed out on a Saturday and Sunday, the service is brisk so that tables usually come up quickly. . Breakfasts are excellent, with breakfast burritos, delicious pancakes and a good range of muffins and pastries to sample. The highlight is definitely the coffee, a special blend made by Bonissimo solely for use by Aubergine. Beans and ground coffee are available for purchase however, so you can take home some of the flavour of South Fremantle with you. Feel free to stop off with your pooch after a walk along the beach, they are catered for here with doggy treats for sale. All in all, a great place to while away anything from a sunny summer’s morning to a blustery winter afternoon.

Vote for this cafe, MCR TOP 100

IF you head out west with trepidation when it comes to coffee, fear not,.. this side of town is holding its own. Verb cafe radiates grooveness and stability with Latin music pipping through, 70′s decore and a few print ads from yesteryear that I think may be ‘fake’.. haha.

The welcome is perfect, the service fast, the patrons friendly, esp the hungry dude beside me having two breakfasts back to back.. man you rock!

The caffiene hit was Atomic, true to its name,.. slightly bitter for me, but temperate, hot and smoothe.. lovely, no bad coffee here! tellem’ we set you and if they don’t make Top 100, I’ll be asking questions.

breaky rocked also, but what would I know.

Coffee is a blend of Mother Nature and science. It is at NSHRY that the interlocking of these two fundamental elements crystallizes. My first impression of NSHRY inhibits my need for a morning coffee fix to captivate me to the beauty of Port Phillip Bay and ground me to my biocentric values. As if struck by lighting the possibility of perfection has bestowed upon me- could it be possible that both the coffee and view of the bay will be exceptional.  Then, I look inside and upwards to observe 2000 pieces of timber slats cascading in variable lengths from the ceiling in a downward motion. The contemporary concept is effective and was designed by a postgraduate architect student whom had the owners placing each slate individually themselves-impressive.  Now it is time for coffee.

My coffee arrives which is good, smooth in milk texture but slightly bitter.  However, coupling my visit to NSHRY and the aesthesis of their view allowed me to reconnect with the notion that coffee is a gift from mother nature that is refined by science – what a perfect start to a day what a holistic experience.

Details and Vote

Martin Street, Brighton reminds me of a quaint English village. Maybe that’s the reason that under the surface of this lovely little cafe beats the heart of community based entrepreneurship. Make no mistake, you walk into this place and you will be looked after, treated like royalty. If you area parent, your kids will have plenty of company especially between 9 and 10am as I found out during my conference call, but all good.

I think saloop is a pioneer as their staff pretty well run the place as a training ground for their own operation in the future. This is like a real reality show where young with progressive and interested managers who are trying some innovative approaches to running a cafe. They also, as a matter of policy, get all their ingreedients locally, including Phillipas Bread and Tonino Lamborghini Coffee.

The coffee was done well, slightly bitter, but many like that. I have done a latte here before and they are creamy and smooth,.. so no probs there.

Welcome to the family!
