coffeebarun

My man Ian has bean out and about again in search of a great caffeine hit, let’s check out his latest attempt at Espresso Nirvana:

Stepping further and further from the city usually limits your options in terms of finding a quality cup. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth with the current case in point, The Coffee Barun.
Located a short drive north of the city, the café/roastery is easily recognisable by the ample out-door seating.

Entering the shop you can’t help but notice the dedication to serving fantastic espresso. A Synesso Sabre (espresso machine of the truly committed, only ever witnessed in the most discerning coffee haunts) paired with no less than three grinders allows their passionate barista’s the opportunity to serve a few options of what is drinking best that day.
The coffee is roasted on site by the café’s passionate owner, Mark Barun, and is always absurdly fresh. My espresso was totally divine with an amazingly thick viscosity, and an aroma that jumps out of the cup and punches you in the face. The flavour was sweet and intense and lingered for as long as I’d allow it to before ordering a flat white to follow.
The flat white was a work of art. Masterfully prepared by 2005 state champion barista, Brad Nixon, the milk was silky smooth with a picturesque rosetta facing to greet me. There was enough coffee flavour coming through the cup, matched with a fantastic sweet, creaminess from the milk. An ideal flat white indeed.
They trade seven days a week and hold open forum cuppings every Saturday at around 2pm. If you consider yourself a coffee enthusiast or just want to experience some of the best coffee in the state this place is a must see.
Three beans here for sure.

The CaFFiend is impressed and stoked for you crow eaters, sounds like a HOTSHOT Cafe, from out here….Keep on caffeining on!!!

6 East Terrace

etc

OK Guys, here’s another review, this time of an iconic cafe in SA, coming to us from Team Caffeine’s very own Ian:

Whether it’s a weekend hangover cure, or a quick bite before starting work throughout the week, Adelaidians have been flocking to East Terrace Continental (ETC) on East Tce in the city for years now.
The completely unpretentious setting has seating for plenty, which is just as well as this place can get seriously busy.
The thoroughly expansive menu definitely doesn’t subscribe to the idiom of ‘keeping it simple’. There is definitely something for everyone here, and this is easily witnessed by the sheer range of clientele that frequent this establishment.
To start with I ordered a flat white which arrived rather promptly. No artwork, and a little grainy but on the whole, not too bad in terms of presentation. The flavour was a little thin and definitely tasted under extracted, though the milk temp was pretty well spot on.
Reluctantly I ordered an espresso next up and this came out straight away which was great. Unfortunately that was about the only good thing I could say about it. Pulled too long, this shot was watery, acidic, and scoldingly hot.

No beans here unfortunately, but for the atmosphere and great menu I’ll be back again. Hopefully then, to report about a better coffee experience.
Pity too, the CaFFiend was hoping for a bean or two at least from the crow eaters, oh well, for all the best beaneries in town, check out:

Here comes another one, just like the other ones……

It seems like Team Caffeine has taken over; ANOTHER guest review this time from the highly caffeinated Ian in Adelaide….GREAT WORK TEAM @ this rate the CaFFiend will turn into a mythical, legendary figure of a not too distant past…..NOT!!!

Keep ‘em coming I LOVE IT when our readers get involved, check this one out:

Nestled just a few meters away from Adelaide’s corporate precinct is one of the finest cups of coffee in the CBD.

Pranzo’s is a snappy, corporate Italian bistro with enough sophistication, class and attitude to serve nutella on toast for breakfast, and duck foie gras for lunch.

However the main attraction has to be the fantastic espresso that’s being served up. Evident by the sheer number of suits sipping on their flat whites over their business meetings, Josh (the barista) does a terrific job crafting their signature rio coffee blend into something of an artform.

Beginning with a cappuccino as a formality, the coffee was rich, well textured and served at the perfect temp with a pronounced coffee flavour punching through the milk.

However it was my espresso that really impressed. A fairly short, lush and explosively rich body of viscous oil best describes how their espresso is served. Fantastic complexity and huge depth of flavour.

Two beans here for sure; and an incredible introduction to the world of Melbourne Coffee Review to our roving reviewer in S.A. Ian, my man!!!

WELCOME AND THANKS!!!

Sounds like a real gem; for all the best that we have discovered out here in Melbourne check out:

I ventured back to the scene of many crimes back in the 90′s. If you don’t know Adelaide, Hindley Street is not a place for the feint of heart after 10pm. I was just in Adelaide town on business and the gang and I were after some breakfast. We appreared at the King William end of the afore said street and started our way down. My colleagues, oblivious to the infamous reputation of this place, wandered down with ease. I needed a coffee! We finally chose Short Black Espresso. It was inviting and looked like they could make a coffee,.. don’t ask me how I know….

The guy at the helm, was clearly busy.. we finally ordered our feast and I gingerly asked for my cuppa joe!.. I was not disappointed,.. the coffee, while a little too cool for my liking was flavoursome, and creamy. There was a little bitterness but hey.. we are in Hindly Street. At the risk of being thrashed next time I am there, I like this place and would visit again… I took a poll with my gang and we came to a conclusion that this was a solid 1 beaner with high prospects for two. Well done guys.
