Sean and Dan on the tools!! MadMen!!

Back in the early part of the naughties grabbed my coffees near my then girlfriends (now wife) work at the bakehouse. Just convenient, I had not morphed into the coffee nut yet,.. but as mentioned in prior posts, that became Crue Coffee Lounge. Over the last 12 months I have been hanging here (close to a client) regularly with the lads, Sean, Barry (Cooky) and Dan the man on the tools (he taps the group handle as I tap the key board).

Today however is the last day as the new owners are renovating and changing the name and a few other things. So, its a ressurrection, which is kool, and of course the team will re emerge in a few weeks with a face lift but I thought it was worth a coffee salute from MCR to all those that came before at the Crue Coffee Lounge.

Thanks for all the laughs, the insane coffee and those delightful breakfasts cooky.. you rock!!

At MCR, we’ve been beavering away (like semiaquatic broad-tailed rodents) with our buddy James Tuckerman, founder of entrepreneurial juggernaut Anthill Magazine, to roll out our latest offspring, 100coffees.com.au. This will blow you away — like a double machiato. We’ve convinced our favourite cafes to give you free coffee. Did you hear me? Free coffee! Here’s how it works. Each week, we’ll be showcasing six to 12 best of breed cafes from various corners of Greater Melbourne. They get to tempt you through their doors with the promise of smooth black nectar. You get to discover new places to fall in love with and call your ‘local’. Here’s the link to get your free coffee: 100coffees.com.au. 10p0 Coffees

A couple of demotions off our Hotshot list.

Our beloved Pellegrini’s, while you do a great spag, your coffee has not cut it for a while. I know it’s irony, but the world has moved on my old friends and we expect better. You are like the old Barry Manalow song Copacabana:

“Her name was lola, she was a showgirl
With yellow feathers in her hair and a dress cut down to there
She would merengue and do the cha-cha
And while she tried to be a star
Tony always tended bar
Across the crowded floor, they worked from 8 til 4
They were young and they had each other
Who could ask for more? “

Well, we could and we do! We’ll check in again but so long for now.

Also, so long to Dream Cakes Cafe in Oakleigh. This place had a moment a few years ago, but lost their way. Let me snippet a message I got recently which says it all!

[Quote begin]: Dream Cakes
Message just a suggestion.
I have been there a few times but it seems to get worse every time. Staff sit out the front smoking, forget your order. Shout across the room to one another.

Do yourself a favour and close the place down if you don’t want to compete with the other cafes[Quote end]
