campos

Hi all you Melbournites, let me tell you that this coffee-house is not only one of the best in Sydney but I believe one of the best in Australia, even by Melbourne standards.

The coffee-crazed crowds flock to Campos, they can’t get enough of the magic that the boys there serve up.

Nothing compares, nothing even comes close here.

I must give them 3 beans and feel unworthy to even try to review their divine coffee.

Steve, come up for a visit, you won’t be sorry, Campos can mix it with the best of them, come see for yourself, you won’t be sorry

Coffee: Campos

p.s. Following Bruce’s critique of my BATCH experience, the CaFFiend went back out to re-review, please check out the addendum to original review, Steve.

The Holy of Holies, as far as coffee on the east coast is concerned…..it is really a must for one and all on this pilgrimage, so it was time for the CaFFiend to find out a bit more about this magical and mythical Mecca Espresso….the results were surreal!

Out west of the CBD on the corner of York and King st is Mecca Espresso. Renowned around town and around the world, Paul and his team have got it down pat, the place is always chokkas, full to the brim, all day every day except Sunday, when they’re closed!

The whole place is incredible, everyone is so friendly, it is just so inviting.

I order and espresso, which arrives promptly, with a dense crema and lingering aroma. It is sharp and viscous, a perfect way to begin my life’s journey to Mecca. I chase it with a flat white, which is just perfect…in the words of the CaFfiend, pure GOLDILOCKS: JUST RIGHT!!!!!

The boys at Mecca deserve a BIG pat on the back, and all you caffeine hungry pilgrims need to get out to Mecca to experience this truly divine revelation, this Espresso Epiphany…..3 BEANS here, without a doubt, one of Sydney’s finest…….

I have been in Sydney since Wednesday running a workshop for a client. I have to admit that until now I have had, what can only be be described as a ‘distant’ relationship with Ms Sydney. I think however that on this trip I may have fallen in smit (or perhaps a crush) with her. Since Agi joined MCR I have been a little more selective with my reviews. He asks me to do five while I am here, however I will give you just one. A good one.

The news is that Sydney now has a coffee culture to rival Melbourne now. I don’t know how wide spread it is, but you can certainly get a decent brew in the city. I personally am not fussed where I get a great coffee. My alliance is to the quality brew not to Melbourne per se. Sorry, its true.

With that let me introduce you to Jet Cafe at the Queen Vic Building. This place is smack bang in the middle of town on the corner of York and Druitt Sts. The pointy end of the QVB. This is my second visit (as per the old days when I use to insist on multi visits to review). On both visits I was greeted with a friendly and professional cafe service, and a long macchiatto that was borderline sex.

Yes my friends, this place rocked my rather clear pallet which had not seen caffeine since Friday last week, due to a self imposed cleanse. The presentation was traditional glass and saucer with the trusty but unnecessary satchel of sugar on the side. The first sip greeted my lips with a perfectly drawn and hot creamy nectar that had just the hint of bitterness. The crema was long and lasting and the vibran ambiance allowed me to enjoy the coffee with privacy and anonymity.
Welcome to the three bean club lads!

I was up in Sydney early last week for Pitch Club. I hit a few coffee places, but nothing to rave home about. One of the more aesthetically pleasing places was AWABA Beachside Café, where the views and ambiance was so groovy you could forget that the coffee was average. The truth is that the coffee was ok. They cared enough to bring out the long macchiato (double mach in Sydney language) in a fit state to drink, hot and creamy. The views of the beach were great and the food delectable. Strange that they don’t do poached eggs though. Go figure. I sipped coffee with my dynamic duo friends Nick and Maria from Fitzone. We yabbered about all things philosophical and I briefly (and privately) reminisced about my youth as an Australian soldier as I watched the lads from a near by barracks go through their own hell. Awaba rocks, a decent coffee and definitely worth a visit. One bean.
